When I first got Internet access, there were many Kids Inc. fansites out there. Now, there are very few, and they're disappearing quickly, mostly due to the belief that a site needs graphics, special Javascript effects, and music/video in order to be "good". This couldn't be farther from the truth.
We are all Kids Inc. fans. Flashy sites do not make a fan. Neither does an outstanding collection of MP3's. I know there are lots of site awards out there, but this one is different. Nearly every single one of you out there qualify for the The Little Site That Could's Underdog Award.
You are a fan.
If you have at least one KI page, that is a fansite. I don't care if you have a few pictures, or an essay on what KI means to you and some links, they're all KI fansites. In fact, I'll even go as far as to say I wish there were more of those sites around, because the more KI sites we have, the more chances we can remind others of the show, and create even more fans. Do you realize that, if every fan had a 2-page fansite, there would be, at the very least, a thousand KI pages online? Imagine all the people they would reach!
Okay, enough preaching, here's the deal. Let's nominate some KI sites out there that consist of maybe a few pages, or one page on a personal site, of KI or any of its former stars* (except for Wild Orchid - there's a separate award for them) Send the URL to dawne @ kidsincforeveronline.net (make sure you put "Underdog" in the subject). The webmaster/webmistress will receive this:
*About Fergie sites: Someone brought up a good point. She's both a KI alum and a WO alum, so as far as I'm concerned, you can choose either one - not both, that wouldn't be fair. I guess it would depend on your content, and if you were actually a KI fan or not.
I'm going to (try to) list all the sites that have received the award, so they will get bonus publicity as well. I hope that all you underdogs out there will help me promote our favorite show.
